Karl Antao (b. 1966) is a Goan who studied Bachelor’s in Fine Arts (Applied Arts) from Sir J. J School of Applied Arts in 1991. A former advertising professional, Antao was dissatisfied with the difference between the final imagery and the designer’s visualizations. He made the choice to become a sculptor instead, using primarily wood and bronze to create mammoth works of stunning vibrancy. He has participated in various group shows since 1987, some of which were at Amdavad ni Gufa, Ahmedabad. He participated in the Annual Exhibition by the Bombay Art Society in years 1987 and 1993. He has also held several shows over the course of time, three being at the Sakshi Gallery, Mumbai in years 1999, 2003 and 2010. He has won several awards such as the Best Sculpture Award by All India Art Society, Mumbai in 1992; Bombay Art Society Award in 1993; Bendre - Husain Award in 1995 and various others.
He lives and works in Ahmedabad.
