Born in 1950 in Pune, Maharashtra, Nayanaa Kanodia, is an economist turned painter. Having won the National Scholarship of the Government of India, she completed her graduation from Lady Shri Ram College, New Delhi with an Honours Degree in Economics. Her work is characterised by the air of whimsy, flat bright polished surfaces and the extraordinary plethora of intricately worked details and patterns. Her paintings intend to make you feel that you are watching a snapshot of life at maximum preposterousness, exuberant and bursting with energy, idiosyncrasy and absurdity
She aims to draw the viewers’ attention through her work to several social issues which the economically and socio-culturally transforming nations face such as global warming, gender discrimination ,social ineaquality to name a few. Her paintings are in public and private collections all over the world. She is actively associated with several reputed charitable societies and judges art competitions at a senior level. She is also the proud recipient of the National Scholarship of the Govt. of India in Economics (Honours).
